Wavelet compression algorithm provides better compression/quality then traditionally used JPEG algorithm. In JPEG compression image divides into series of blocks, so at high compression ratio you can see them as squares with different colors. Wavelet algorithm does not divide image into blocks, but analize the whole image. It's efficiency in compression/quality terms seems to be much higher than JPEG. Results of compression with Elecard's Wavelet compressor and standard JPEG are shown below
